I last did
one of these posts in January, and happened to recently read another one by a blogger I follow and thought it'd be fun to do another, as our schedule has changed a bit since I last did one, because HELLO: It's summer and we are no longer confined to the house that had begun to feel like a dungeon after that long winter!
So here is us as of lately, with Cashel being now 2 1/2 and Kendrick being just about 10 months.
5:30am
My alarm clock goes off, and if Kendrick happened to have slept through the night, I likely get up. If he was up to eat, though, I tend to linger a while until Mark's alarm goes off: A Mama needs her sleep, after all.
5:50am
Mark and I are up for sure by now, and sometimes Kendrick is too, depending on how he slept. We head upstairs (since we're all sleeping downstairs now), and Mark goes and immediately gets a bowl of cereal: He can't function in the morning without his immediate bowl of cereal.
If Kendrick is up, I'll get him ready first, but if he's still sleeping, I then I get myself ready. You'll find me in the guest room that we use as our closet these days (we never did move it all to our room downstairs).
After getting ready, I'll go make my coffee (unless Mark has done that already - sometimes he's sweet like that), then do my makeup and get the straightening iron ready.
Sometimes I end up doing all of the above with a monkey around my ankles :)
(I always shower the night before these days because I just don't have time in my mornings without waking up at 5am, and when I'm going to bed at 11 and usually waking at least once in the night, I need that extra 30 minutes when I can get it.)
6:30am
Cashel is usually still sleeping these days, so Mark has to run down and get him up and get him dressed as quickly as possible. Some days Kendrick is still sleeping too, so that's when I'll go down and get him ready too. They're easy: diaper changes, shirts, shorts for both, then socks, shoes and sippy cup of milk (for Cashel) and 4oz bottle for Kendrick to hold him off until breakfast.
Before we know it, though, it's time to grab our bags and head out the door.
6:45am
Out the door and off to daycare.
We drop the boys off at daycare, then head to work, about 3 miles away.
7:00am
Mark and I arrive at work together (for those who didn't know that - we both work at the same place) and go our separate ways - him to the Engineering office, and me to the IS office.
I start checking emails right away while sipping on my coffee on a good day. Sometimes I hit the ground running all over the shop floor troubleshooting).
Here's a little view of my office area :)
I'm wondering how many of you noticed my awesome monitor "risers", and how many more of you noticed that they're two different heights right now haha
Every day is different for Mark and I. There are some days that we are out on the shop floor all day troubleshooting or observing, and others where we sit at our desks most of the day. Mark and I seldom see each other during the day at work, even though our offices aren't too far apart. On a
very few days of the year you might even find me up on the scissor lift running network or phone cables or fixing printers. But the vast majority of the day, you'll find me at my desk doing all sorts of things, from data access to writing code to database entry to checking and responding to emails.
Mark spends a fair chunk of the day on the assembly line - especially when he has projects starting up or pilot runs - but he also is always working on processes at his desk or on slower days, finding cost savings.
Sometimes Mark comes back for a snack, since I am the snack keeper, but otherwise, we just see each other in the morning, at lunch, and when it's time to head home.
You might notice as a big difference from my last "Day in the Life" post that I no longer took a pump break: As of late last week, I'm no longer pumping at work, so that has been a big, positive(!) change for me.
noon/lunch
We had been bringing our lunch to work and walking around the plant, but life got hectic, and it's hard to find the time in our crazy mornings to actually grab our lunches. Plus, we now can actually get outside and go for walks with the boys in the evenings now that we don't have a foot of snow outside. Most days, lunch is leftovers from the night before, but sometimes we swing through McDonald's or just go home and make some grilled cheese or something like that.
3:30ish
End of the day buzzer.
I'll admit: When I hear it, I'm ready to run out of here almost immediately. Most days we take of around 3:45 or 4pm, though, as we are just finishing things up. It's not that I dislike work, it's just that I cannot wait to see my little boys. It's hard being away from them all day, and I like to be able to spend a little time with them before rushing to get supper ready by 5:15.
4pm
Lately we've been trying to get to the pool from 4-5 before they close for adult swim from 5-6. The timing stinks, honestly. It'd be nice if we could stay a little longer. If not swimming, we head home and let the boys play while I start prepping supper. Tonight, however, we ventured out for a gorgeous walk down the road a bit into the country.
5:15-5:30ish
Supper time! We sit down to eat at the table every night. This has been SO much easier since I started meal planning. Some nights are more complex meals that require quite a bit of prep, but my favorite nights are the easy ones like tonight: 15 minutes skillet lasagna - yum!
6:30pm
Bath time for Kendrick, then Cashel - sometimes they take a bath at the same time, but it's usually easier if they don't.
6:45ish
Kendrick and I head down to bed. He has a 6oz bottle, and then we read a few books before we turn off the lights and snuggle. We pray together, then sometimes he goes down right away, but sometimes I put him in his crib and let him fuss a bit before he goes to sleep.
Cashel and Daddy spend some quality time together when I'm putting Kendrick down (or vice versa, if Mark is putting Kendrick to bed that night), and that time is highly unstructured. Sometimes they go outside, sometimes they watch some Netflix, sometimes they jump on the bed, and sometimes they read.
8pm-ish
Cashel is ready for bed, and we make sure to fill up his sippy cup, have his blankie and monkey and head downstairs to his room.
Most of the time, we both are able to snuggle in his bed with him and read books, sing songs and pray together. Cashel is pretty particular about who is allowed to read which book. For example, under no circumstances am I ever allowed to read Tea Party Rules: Only Daddy can do that. But I am the official "Llama Llama Red Pajama" reader, and Daddy dare not touch that book either. However, we aren't exactly allowed to even sing these days: As soon as we begin, Cashel cuts us off, saying "No, NO!" and then he wants to sing, usually "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
Lately he has been fighting bedtime much moreso than usual, and we're lucky if he falls asleep by 9pm.
9pm
We hope that both boys are asleep by now, and then we have a little downtime. I'll blog or work on my digital scrapbooking and Mark usually is playing games on his phone and/or watching TV. We'll tag-team the dishes and laundry if need by after a bit of downtime, then shower up and head to bed.
10:30pm
I prep Kendrick's last 6oz bottle of the day, then head down to change him into his night time diaper and feed him, burp him, and set him back down in his crib. Mark goes in to change Cashel into his nighttime diaper as well, and then we head to bed. Goodnight, world!
And
thankfully, this is now where our nights end most of the time. Kendrick and Cashel have finally both been sleeping through the night for the most part. They are no longer battling colds and are mostly finished with this round of teething from what we can tell. HALLEUJAH!
Of course, since I wrote this out and posted it on the blog, it is inevitable that it will probably change drastically tonight.
