Lately in Windom (January 2017)

For those of you wondering how this pregnancy is going so far, this is how I feel going to bed each night...and also how I wake up feeling every morning. To say the insomnia has set in is an understatement. Really antsy for that 2nd trimester burst of energy.

I have to admit: I never do the messy eating phase well. I really, really, really, really dislike this phase. I despise cleaning up the floor and the table after every meal. The big boys seldom make a mess, but Ryan makes a big enough mess for everyone, combined.

The big boys weren't feeling so hot after our day in Iowa :( You can tell Cashel isn't feeling well when he is napping not just once (which would be a miracle in itself), but THREE times in one day...and sleeps all night.

So we joined this little challenge, mostly just so that we could have somewhere to exercise during these winter months. I'm obviously not going to be losing any weight anytime soon, but Mark could if he puts his mind to it.

On Cashel's second sick day (in which he was feeling 100% better but still was technically contagious in the morning), he seriously kicked butt helping Mama clean, so we went out for an afternoon treat once he was officially in the clear :)

Celebrating Grandma Diane's 66th birthday a little late.

Pretty much feeling like this a lot this month :(

A bump! I'm still convinced the vast majority of it was constipation and fat, but it doesn't go down anymore, so whatever tiny bump is there looks much bigger haha

We're big into the late birthday celebrations this year, apparently. Celebrating with Aunt Jess a full month later.

We made it above 30 degrees, which warranted a walk!

At least they kept it "clean" messy this time and nothing was spilled all over the floor? Small victories?

Ryan is totally fascinated by cabinets and their contents lately. He was apparently pretty hungry haha

The kiddos love to build with the legos at the library.

We end up picking out the books for the week.

Cashel is going through this "coloring" with black ink and plain lead pencils lately.

These kiddos love their Great Grandma :)

It makes me giggle that I actually got some use out of my backdrop kit that I bought when Cashel was a newborn. I'd say my photography skills have increased tenfold from that time, even if I would never pursue them further than taking pictures of my kids. Still, I remember back to the days when I thought that just buying nice equipment would mean I could take nice pictures. I needed so.much.practice. (I still do with backdrops and everything else, FYI)

Case in point....this was one of my "good" ones. It makes me cringe! The lighting was ridiculously bad, and I had no idea what I was doing with posing and such.

With some of my harvest money this year, I decided to try out one of those mini DSLRs. I went with the Nikon J4. I had it for about 2 weeks before deciding to return it. It was certainly better than a point and shoot camera, but not so much better that it warranted keeping for $400. I'll stick with my bulky DSLR for the time being, I suppose :(

I mean, this picture took me about 10 tries to even get this crisp, and it's still pretty blurry.

Decorating Cashel's birthday cake!

Sometimes I think he must just be saying, "Seriously, guys - can you just let me do my own thing? I'm a BIG KID now!" It'll hopefully help once Ryan is walking more and can get from point A to point B faster so they'll stop trying to carry him everywhere. Also: These two will probably get a lot of "are they twins?" comments when they get older. Oh.My.Goodness.

This kid and gifts lately is so frustrating! He BEGGED for a bow and arrow set for weeks leading up to his birthday. He has played with it exactly once since then...the afternoon of his birthday when he got home from daycare.

This kid and rotisserie chicken, a.k.a. "chicken with the skins". He is obsessed!

Seriously with those smiley eyes!

Cashel is now FIVE!!

This is all the birthday boy wanted to do for his birthday: Go to Chuck e Cheese to play skeeball.

I took a slew of pictures from the day, but what stuck out the most was this particular one, where Ryan actually got to ride on the train with Kendrick. Oh my goodness does he look so grown up here!

The fancy Nikon J4 in medium-light action. Hence my reasoning for returning it. Yikes!

I just love this kid!

I feel like someone stole months from me and I woke up one day and this kid got OLD on me. I swear it was just yesterday I was still exclusively nursing him and he slept all night. #memories

Birthday weekend fun!

We have so few pictures together from this past year. One of the two of us is always so busy keeping the kids alive that we don't typically get to just sit still long enough for a picture anymore haha

We had a ROUGH night of sleep at the hotel (and that's beyond the pregnancy-induced insomnia for Mama), so all I wanted was a chance to nap while Daddy took the big kids to the pool for TWO HOURS after church. Of course, this one would have none of it. We got ready, checked out, and he passed out on the way to HuHot for lunch. He napped in the midst of the chaos for about 45 minutes.

I think the kiddos will be better with chopsticks than I will be some day!

That's it for January! Hopefully I can do better at keeping up with these, as I love doing them! Alas, life gets busy!

Birthday Weekend in Sioux Falls (January 28-29)

For Cashel's 5th birthday, his only big request was to go to Chuck E Cheese and play skeeball, so we obliged. I'm beginning to learn as I advance at this parenting thing that sometimes MY idea of a great birthday is not what my 5 year old son thinks is a great birthday party.

We made it to Chuck E Cheese around 12:15pm on Saturday, and after a bit of a wait to get our tokens and table, we got right into the games and fun...starting with skeeball, of course :)

After what seemed an eternity, we finally got our pizza and sat down to fill our tummies.

As we were finishing our pizza, the brought out the birthday cake, and Cashel was all sorts of excited about all.those.sprinkles :)

Kendrick was doing totally fine until Chuck E came out to say happy Birthday haha He was a good mix of excited and terrified at the same time, hence the hanging on to Mama's arm ;)

I think the most excited little guy the whole day was Ryan. He was just beaming and excited and enamored by everything the whole day. It was really cute :)

The big boys were stoked to find out they got to have a turn in the ticket tornado thing.

It was back to the rides for a while - Kendrick didn't want to stop riding with the mouse here. He was obsessed with the mouse after this party, and it cracked me up. He talks about going back to Chuck E Cheese to see that mouse a lot.

By the end of our 2 hours there, the boys were getting REALLY tired of Chuck E Cheese and were ready to go find our hotel and get to the pool. The big boys and Daddy went down to swim for a bit while Ryan and I ran a few errands and did a little shopping in town. After that, we rested a bit, then headed out to find some supper. After finding there to be an hour long wait at Texas Roadhouse, we opted to go to Ruby Tuesday instead, which turned out good for the kiddos! They have a pretty fantastic kids menu there, and a huge full salad bar, and there were all sorts of options for little Ryan, which is sometimes hard when eating out.

After supper, we had to get back to the hotel to do more swimming!

The next morning, we were up early anyway, so we decided to go to the early church service with the kiddos at Central (where we used to go on the weekends we were in Sioux Falls when I lived in Sioux Falls). Afterwards, the boys went down to swim a little more while Ryan and I worked on getting our things packed up and ready to go. I worked on trying to get him to nap for a good solid hour to no avail.

No worries, though, because the second we pulled into HuHot for lunch, he was all...

Meanwhile, big brothers were all...

And later on, Ryan was all...

I really do think HuHot is going to be one of those places we frequent a LOT with these kiddos. They're generally very well behaved, they're entertained by the process, and love the part where they get to determine what they're eating.

We really had a very fun weekend (even if the night of sleep wasn't so fantastic on a queen size bed with a baby between us), and it was fun to celebrate our sweet Cashel's birthday together. :)
