January thru March Recap (2010)

While this is coming a little bit late, I thought I'd go ahead and help myself get a jump start on my Christmas newsletter by making a short mid-year review of what has been going on in our lives this past year :)

January
New Years' Eve and Shopping Day
We spent much of January keeping warm inside and trying not to freeze our tooshies off! After the immense load of snow we received at the end of December, we spent much of January "dealing" with it. We had a lazy New Years' Eve in Worthington hanging out with Jamie, and then spent a day shopping in Mankato a couple days later.

Snow Removal
Mark took it upon himself to clear the snow off our lower deck - the strong, strong man that he is, insisting that I take picture of every immense boulder of snow he came across.

Supper with Gretchen
I was also able to catch up with supper at Perkin's with one of my college roommates from NWC - Gretchen - while she was in Iowa for the weekend.

February
Humboldt for Riley's 4th Birthday Party
We made a weekend trip down to Humboldt the first weekend in February to celebrate our nephew Riley's 4th birthday - a TMNT theme.

Valentine's Day
We had a pretty laid-back Valentine's Day this year, but still had fun celebrating together :) Mark got me some beautiful roses, and I got him an enormous gorilla stuffed animal and made a yummy supper of steak, broccoli and waffle fries (what a combination, huh?)

Disaster Strikes!
3 days before the big Hawaii trip, Mark tore his Achilles tendon while playing basketball at open gym. We spent the 3 days before the trip running around to doctors and hospitals to figure out what to do. He ended up in an orthopaedic boot with lots of painkillers for the trip, with surgery scheduled when we returend.
Hawaii Trip
Mark and I left February 20 for Hawaii, where we spent 3 days on Oahu, 4 days on Kaua'i, and 3 days on The Big Island. The detailed review of the trip can be found on my travel blog: humdawgstravels.blogspot.com

Return from Hawaii
We returned from Hawaii on March 3, and spent the next week or so trying to recover from the crazy traveling!
Mark's Surgery
Mark was finally able to have his surgery to repair his torn Achilles tendon the Friday after we got home. It was a whirlwind of a month for both of us, but particularly for Mark, as he was pretty well incapacitated and had to learn to do things from a wheelchair for much of the month. Through it all, he had such a great attitude, and is continuing to get better each day.

Josh's 25th Birthday
Although it was a crazy month, we did manage to make a trip down to Humboldt to celebrate my brother, Josh's 25th birthday. We met the family at Vinny's BBQ for supper, then went back to the house for a decadent cheesecake dessert! Happy Birthday, little bro!
