U-Haul Stakeout

So last night around 9 we had just finished watching 'Rendition', and Mark got up to make some popcorn. He noticed that there was a big U-Haul truck parked out across the street by some apartments across the street from our house, and that the neighbors were backing the truck up to the door. My first thought was, "What a mess - don't they know that it's going to be all muddy, considering it was in the mid-40s today and everything is melting?"

Well, a few minutes later, Mark tells me, "Well - looks like they got stuck out there trying to get the U-Haul out of the yard", and boy were they ever stuck! By that time, the popcorn was ready, so we pulled the guest bed over to the windo out and watched with anticipation. It was kinda like a stakeout - we were peeking through the blinds, munching on popcorn, and wondering what these people were gonna do. Mark's first suggestion: "Well, I suppose we'll have to haul it out with the Tahoe", after which I reminded him that the U-Haul is at least twice the size of the Tahoe and that we had no chains anyways.

Eventually, the neighbors called the tow truck in, and we watched as the tow truck unsuccessfully tried to get the thing out. After about 5 minutes of watching this crazy stint, Mark finally went out there and told them that it might actually help to put the U-Haul in gear and give it some gas while the tow truck was doing it's thing. Apparently they had left the thing in park while the tow truck was trying to tow lol So proud of my hubby for being so smart - it worked like a charm.

Lesson of the Day: When moving, don't drive a U-Haul onto a muddy yard, fill it full of all your crap, and then think you're gonna get it out without calling in the reinforcements.
