January Recap

After the hustle and bustle of the holidays, January was a very welcome reprise from it all, and truth be told, we didn't do a whole heck of a lot. It was SO cold the first half of the month that we were hermits, much to the disapproval of the boys.

We did manage to make it out sledding on New Years' Day, but shortly after that the weather was either questionable

Looking Ahead
We don't have a whole lot planned for February or March beyond having a baby and bringing him home with us. However, looking a few months down the road, we're in the beginning stages of planning a family vacation out west to Yellowstone at some point while I'm on maternity leave (which would mean probably in mid-to-late May).

That's about it for my January recap! I'm afraid February will likely be extremely uneventful and dull as well (my apologies), but there will be plenty of updates on my baby blog if you're wanting to read more about the whole having a baby saga ;)

Lately in Windom

I feel like this is going to be a super boring one, considering we've been spending probably 98% of our time bumming around inside the house, but here goes ;)
Somehow, within about 2 seconds of going down the hill, Cashel always ends up flipping around and going down backward.

What you don't see in this picture is that I couldn't even zip up or button my snow pants. Mark asked me last weekend if I wanted to go sledding with the kids and him again, and I laughed. I'd be surprised at this point if I could get them up.

So.Much.Snow lately

This little guy looks so innocent, but the dinner table feels like a battle ground these days.

This has been the scene in the middle of our kitchen floor since Christmas. These guys love the matching game. Mama wishes they'd find a less-central location to set up.

I say this every year at this time, but I am super tired of winter.

Stickers tend to be a major waste of money at our house.

Both of the boys like to be touching my belly whenever we're snuggling.

I'm sure I will miss my little shelf in approximately 5 more weeks, but I wouldn't mind if it was sooner than that.

These two just melt their mama's heart. I am excited to see how baby brother fits into the equation.

The boys found out where the "chocolate balls" (i.e. Lindor truffles from Aunt Iryna and Uncle Daniel from Christmas) were hiding out. I swear I can never go to the bathroom anymore, because they pull this kinda crap: A super wobbly stool on top of a padded chair.

Super "bad owie" for Kendrick. Apparently Cashel can now climb the walls in the tub...and get my razor down...which was WAY at the top. Of course, who wants to actually play with a razor, so Cashel gave it to Kendrick. Oy! It bled way worse than it actually was, so we were pretty freaked out.

The little lady in the middle there is Mark's cousin and she's due any day now! We can't wait to meet the newest member of the Johnson fam!

This little guy turned four, and I'm just not sure how to handle that kind of news. I don't feel old enough to have a four year old.

He is such a little cheeser!

We didn't end up doing a big birthday party for Cashel this year, but he thoroughly enjoyed the week's worth of cupcakes at every turn.

My three most favorite guys in the whole world :)

Some days Kendrick seems like my little baby, and other days he seems like a grown up. There really isn't an in between here. The only part about having a new baby that I'm not excited about is the part where I know those days when he seems like my little baby will go to the wayside quickly. He has grown SO much this past year!

"I can't figure out why my back is so sore lately, Am..."

This is what happens when you leave cake within reach of a preschooler who REALLLLY wants to eat it.

Bday festivities, take 2!

Seriously...the best birthday gift EVER. We play this game multiple times a day...every single day. The boys LOVE it!

Super fuzzy pic, but Great Grandma Vi knows the way to this little guy's heart!

SOOOO very pleased to be finished with our phone system upgrade at work!

Cashel's Pre-Birthday Weekend in Sioux Falls (January 23-24)

We spent a fun couple days in Sioux Falls this past weekend as a pre-Birthday celebration for Cashel, in lieu of a big birthday party. (And as an aside, I can only thank Jesus for the fact that Cashel actually CHOSE a weekend in Sioux Falls over a birthday party, because the Lord knows this mama could not have handled preparations this year!)

We took off Saturday morning around 10:15am and drove straight there. The boys were pretty giddy to not be spending another weekend hanging out at home and were extremely well-behaved on the 90 minute drive there :)

We decided on Cracker Barrel for lunch right as we got into town, which I'd like to think was a great move, but upon walking into the little country store part immediately turned into one of those things nightmares are made of: An almost-4-year-old and a 2.5 year old running through a store filled with breakable stuff. We finally got seats, though, and the food was good, and the service was good, and the boys ate pretty much nothing but vegetables and a few bites of mac & cheese.

We were so thankful that we were able to get into our hotel room shortly before 1pm, and pretty much immediately changed into our gear and headed down to the pool. Kendrick's reaction here about sums it up: Pure excitement mixed with "OMG IT'S COLD!!!" haha :)

Mark and I learned very quickly to just jump in the deep end to save ourselves the pure agony of the gradual freeze. But we also spent a fair amount of time just dangling our feet in the hot tub (which was incredibly hot) to warm up a tinge.

The boys had a blast pretending there were sharks in the pool, and Mark and I would pretend that our arms or legs were stuck in the vents because the sharks were biting them off, which made them squeal and then laugh and laugh and laugh :) Here Kendrick is saying, "Oh! Oh! There's a SHARK over there!"

Mostly, though, the boys just loved to sit on the edge and kick and kick and kick and splash all over: Especially Kendrick.

After the pool time, it was nap time, and we settled the boys down with a show on the tablet.

I was able to run a couple errands while the boys napped, but by the time I got home, Cashel was ready to open another present :) We let him open two of his presents while we were in Sioux Falls: some Crocs for this summer (and the pool), and a set of Magformers, which I've heard really great things about.

Afterwards, we had a little pool and pizza time with the Grabers at the hotel, then visited for a while, letting the kiddos run around screaming and jumping off things in the hotel room. (And yes, it was as crazy as it seemed. haha) So then, as any normal person would, we pumped them full of sugar (birthday cupcakes) for good measure ;)

These two are only about seven months apart, and they had a blast playing together, even if we could hardly get them to stand still long enough to take a picture :)

It took this guy all of about 3 seconds to lay claims on my new Nathan water bottle again. What a goofball :)

It's a tough job being these boys' Daddy, but he handles it well.

We got to bed a little later that night (Kendrick didn't conk out until close to 10pm!), but we were up by 8:30 for the day and hit the pool again after breakfast for one last hoorah.

We checked out by 11:45 and enjoyed a yummy lunch at Outback Steakhouse, followed by a short stop at TJ Maxx and then the mall to let the boys run off some energy in the play place before heading home.

We also stopped to see Grandma, Grandpa and Aunt Jess in Worthington on the way for a short bit before getting home around supper time.

It was a fun weekend, even if this Mama is ready to retire from birthdays altogether at this point :) We're excited to celebrate our little guy on Tuesday, which is his actual birthday! It's hard to believe it has been four years already, but he's certainly growing before our eyes, and we know we can't (nor do we want to) make it stop. I guess that's just how parenthood goes.
