We had a very full weekend last weekend, complete with a busy Saturday (which is what this post is about), followed by a long day trip to Humboldt to see the family (which you can read more about
here.)
We started out Saturday morning sleeping in a bit, then had breakfast and got ourselves ready to head down to Jackson (about 20 miles from here) for their annual Kite Festival. Last year we happened to come across it on our way down to my Mom's in Iowa and thought it looked neat and thought we might try it the next year.
This year, however, there was barely a breeze, which left the kite festival being a bit of a flop, unfortunately. The only redeeming quality was that this guy was there doing this really sweet bubbles, which the kids ADORED!
We still stuck around for about an hour before we decided to make our way over to grab a bite for lunch at Embers, which went moderately well, considering we had a 2 year old and a 3 year old in tow :)
We then made our way back home and walked down to the nearby Reinbows ranch for their annual Fall Festival and Kids Rodeo. It may not have been a great day for a kite festival, but you couldn't have picked a better day for this event!
Compared to last year, I'd say it was probably not quite as fun, but last year we came when the gates opened and headed home before the rodeo. This year we came after lunch and all that was going on was the rodeo, so we missed out on some of the fun stuff that had been going on before the rodeo: Face painting, pony rides, carnival games. We would have stayed until the end of the rodeo to do some of those other activities, but we had two little boys who were VERY desperately in need of a nap, so we opted to walk home instead.
We DID get to take a wagon ride with some friends, though, which was good.
The boys were mostly terrified of the rodeo events and preferred to watch and not participate: Even the stick horse "race" was "too scawwy, Mommy". We basically had to drag them out kicking and screaming. I think Cashel would have done it if Kendrick hadn't been throwing such a fit, but alas, we brought home some stick horses.
We thought Cashel might like doing the mutton busting, but we're all very glad that he ended up being too scared, because a lot of the kids ended up with minor injuries, and we have a feeling Cashel might have been scarred for life. Those sheep are MUCH bigger than I envisioned!
The kids did, however, LOVE seeing the animals in the petting zoo.
And Kendrick is still as enamored as ever with horses :)
Overall, we didn't stay long, and we mostly just felt good that we had made a donation to the ranch, since we love to go visit the horses all the time.
The highlight for the boys seemed to be sitting on the wall at the end eating popcorn.
It was a great day overall, but we all crashed hard by the time we got home, and the rest of the night we felt a bit like zombies. (Or maybe that was just me, but I'll speak for everyone). It was a really beautiful day, though :)
